Skateboards and Scooters 26 March 2026
Yesterday, Hummingbirds had a real treat - we had visitor into school who was an expert at skateboarding and scootering. Our turn was in the afternoon and it was sunny and bright but cold.
Firstly, the children had to put on elbow and knee pads and helmets before we started.
We started with jumping and balancing on the skateboard and quickly moved onto flipping the skateboard. We finished on the KS2 playground skateboarding across the playground. A lovely afternoon .

Over half term, the children have been given a pack of homework items to complete plus a lovely letter and treat from Mr Jones. Included in the pack are a selection from 5 in 5 GPs, 5 in 5 maths , True or False /Sequencing , Arithmetic paper 1 and some number bonds sheets 50/100.

Author visit - Friday 13 February
Today, we had a visit from author Gillian McClure who spent time with Hummingbirds class this morning. She spent time explaining the process of producing one of her books Selkie and how she uses art mainly watercolour painting to help develop her ideas and thoughts for the text. She showed the children lots of her art work and explained how she used this to edit her final pictures and words. The children then had the opportunity to draw their own beach/sea scene/ seals using just black pens and A3 paper. There will be some pictures following showing some of their amazing artwork.
Skipping challenge
This morning, the class completed their skipping challenge in the hall. Here are some pictures of the skipping challenge.
Number day -TTRS- Rockstars and Robots.
Today, the class have had fun dressing up as Rockstars, doing lots of different maths games/ activities and then ,this afternoon ,the top 10 TTRS players will face off in a live TTRS challenge in the school during our special assembly.
Music - Orchestras
In Music, we have been looking at Orchestras and what type of instruments make up an orchestra.In small groups, the class have been making their version of their orchestras. Some of these may have made them home to you.
Science - Mushrooms!
As part of our investigation and understanding of classification , we have been looking at fungi .We have examined the anatomy of mushrooms and are now growing our own to see how they develop and form

Santa’s visit - Friday 19th December
Santa came to visit Hummingbirds class this morning and delivered a present for each child.

Friday 21st November Ancient House Museum Thetford
On Friday, Hummingbirds visited Ancient House Museum as part of their history curriculum also it linked in with our class reading book The Little Matchgirl strikes back set in Victorian times. The children had learnt about Dr Alan Minns who was the first black mayor of Thetford. We learnt lots of interesting facts about his work and went on a guided tour around Thetford relating to key areas.In the afternoon, we spent time learning about life in the workhouse, jobs people did and life in a Victorian school.
Friday 14th November Children in Need
As it was Children in Need today, Hummingbirds class came into school in a variety of spotty clothing or brought in a mix of teddies or soft animals. Here are some pictures of them this morning.
Monday 13th October - Hugo
As part of our current English topic, the children spent some time in class acting out how Claude and Hugo interacted when Hugo heard some bad news. Here are some pictures of them.
Friday 26 September- Cookie baking
Following a great week by all children on their recent assessments, we spent part of the morning scaling up a recipe , working out quantities so that we could make enough cookies for each child to have 2 . The class was split into small groups and they were in charge of measuring , mixing and producing enough cookies for their group.
