Our World, Our Stories

At Edmund de Moundeford, our curriculum is designed to inspire curiosity, build knowledge and prepare children for a successful future.

Since September 2023, we have followed a rolling curriculum programme. This ensures that every child — regardless of their class or year group — has access to the full range of knowledge and skills needed to become confident, capable lifelong learners.

The Power of Stories

Stories sit at the heart of our curriculum.

We believe stories spark imagination, deepen understanding and bring learning to life. They are not only central to English lessons, but are also used across subjects such as Science, History, Geography and RE to engage children and provide meaningful context.

By weaving stories through our curriculum, we nurture a genuine love of reading — both in school and at home.

Building Knowledge and Vocabulary

A rich vocabulary is key to success in reading and learning. That is why we explicitly teach and revisit important subject vocabulary across the curriculum.

In subjects such as History, Science, Geography and RE, we place strong emphasis on:

• Learning and remembering key knowledge

• Understanding and using subject-specific vocabulary

• Revisiting prior learning to strengthen long-term memory

Our curriculum boards in classrooms celebrate children’s achievements and highlight the key knowledge and vocabulary being taught, helping pupils make connections in their learning.

Understanding Our World

Each year, every class studies a different continent, developing a deeper understanding of the wider world and the diverse communities within it.

We celebrate the richness and diversity of our world, positively promoting inclusion and respect for all — including diversity of race, religion and sexuality. Children learn about the past, understand the present and consider the future, preparing them for life in modern Britain and beyond.
