Wellbeing

Children’s wellbeing and mental health sit at the very heart of everything we do. We believe that happy, secure children are confident learners. Creating a nurturing, supportive environment ensures every child feels safe, valued and ready to thrive — both academically and personally.

Our Commitment to Wellbeing

We are proud to foster a caring school community where:

  • Every child feels listened to and respected

  • Positive relationships are built on trust and kindness

  • Emotional literacy is developed alongside academic learning

  • Differences are celebrated and inclusion is championed

Wellbeing is woven into daily classroom practice, assemblies, PSHE lessons and the wider life of the school. Our staff are committed to recognising children’s individual needs and providing the right support at the right time.

The Zones of Regulation

At Edmund de Moundeford, we use the Zones of Regulation framework to help children understand and manage their emotions.

The Zones approach teaches children to:

  • Recognise their feelings and levels of alertness

  • Develop strategies to regulate emotions

  • Build resilience and independence

  • Understand that all emotions are valid

Children learn about the four colour-coded zones:

  • 🔵 Blue Zone – Feeling sad, tired, unwell or bored

  • 🟢 Green Zone – Feeling calm, happy, focused and ready to learn

  • 🟡 Yellow Zone – Feeling excited, worried, frustrated or anxious

  • 🔴 Red Zone – Feeling angry, overwhelmed or out of control

Through consistent language and shared strategies across the school, children become confident in identifying how they feel and choosing tools to help them return to the Green Zone when needed.

Support Through Our SENDCo

Our Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCo) plays a key role in supporting children’s wellbeing. Working closely with families, teachers and external professionals, our SENDCo ensures that children with additional emotional or mental health needs receive personalised and effective support.

Support may include:

  • Individual or small group interventions

  • Emotional literacy programmes

  • Access to sensory tools or quiet spaces

  • Support plans tailored to individual needs

  • Signposting families to specialist services

We believe in strong partnerships with parents and carers, and our SENDCo is always available to offer guidance, reassurance and practical advice.

Support from Norfolk County Council

We work closely with Norfolk County Council to ensure families can access a wide range of local support services. These may include:

  • Norfolk’s Children and Young People’s Mental Health Services

  • Early Help and Family Support

  • SEND and inclusion services

  • Educational Psychology support

  • Just One Norfolk health and wellbeing services

If families require additional support beyond school, we can help with referrals and provide information about the services available across Norfolk.

A Community at the Heart of Everything

At Edmund de Moundeford, wellbeing is not a standalone initiative — it is part of our culture.

We promote:

  • Positive behaviour rooted in respect and understanding

  • Pupil voice and opportunities to be heard

  • Celebration of achievements, big and small

  • A strong sense of belonging

  • Close collaboration between school, home and the wider community

Through nurture, consistency and care, we ensure that every child knows they matter.

Working Together

Supporting children’s mental health is a shared responsibility. By working in partnership with families, Norfolk services and our dedicated staff team, we create a strong network of care around every child.

If you have any concerns about your child’s wellbeing, please contact the school office to speak with your child’s class teacher or our SENDCo. We are here to help.

At Edmund de Moundeford Primary School, we are committed to building confident, resilient learners who feel safe, supported and proud to be part of our community.
