Following our inspection on 1–2 November 2022, Ofsted judged Edmund de Moundeford VC Primary School to be Good in all areas, including overall effectiveness, quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, leadership and management, and early years provision .
Inspectors described our school as a lively, happy and welcoming place where pupils feel safe, behave well and are eager to learn. They recognised our broad and ambitious curriculum, which is carefully sequenced to build knowledge and skills from Reception to Year 6, and highlighted the strong start children make in early years. Reading is a clear priority, with a structured phonics programme helping pupils become confident and enthusiastic readers. Pupils benefit from a wide range of enrichment opportunities and develop respect, tolerance and an understanding of democracy and different cultures. Leadership and governance were praised, safeguarding was found to be effective, and staff feel well supported.
Ofsted identified two next steps: ensuring reading books are even more closely matched to pupils’ phonics knowledge, particularly for those who need additional support, and continuing to strengthen leadership in a small number of curriculum subjects so that pupils achieve consistently well across all areas.
